help with Onan diesel genny

Hello. Just found this page. Actually someone recomended it. I have the oppurtunity to buy a diesel genny (Onan 12.0 MDJ i believe) for $500.00. It was pulled out of a boat 2 years ago for an upgrade and has sat since then. I've managed to get it started and let it run for 30 minutes or so but don't know which wires are which for the AC or even what to look, listen, smell, or look out for. Any help with what to look for, what to test, what year it is, wiring diagrams, anything, would be greatly appreciated. BTW, good deal??? TIA,

Things to check include oil,cooling.fuel systems for leaks or contamination of water dirt ect. also engine temp to make sure it is not overheating. As for as you wiring diagram contact Sandy m. linaker at onan for this info (sandy.m.linaker@cummins.com). Be sure to give her the model,serial#,voltage rating,# of phases etc. Or if you will post this info here i could look it up for you as i have several wiring diagrams for onan generators.

sorry it took so long to reply. It's an Onan 12.0 MDJC3CR122680 ser. 0973696466. The governor doesn't seem to work and I'm not sure which output wires are which. I did improvise a spring onto the throttle arm and get it to run. Any and all information on the engine and generator would be greatly appreciated.

Doug i am sorry but my books don't list that model they only list uf/ouf series. As far as the wiring goes it you should be able to figure it out with a volt meter. I recomend that you contact the person in my earlier post for info on the unit sorry that i was of no help
