Could someone please explain "Smoke Engines" to me and direct me to where I can find additional...

Could someone please explain "Smoke Engines" to me and direct me to where I can find additional information about them.

The only thought I can come up with to this question is maybe it means engines that run off the smoke from a producer gas generator that burns wood or coal in a low oxygen container (to produce flamable smoke) & was used in the past when gasoline was not easy to obtain---re pre 1910 or during W.W. 2

If a "Wood Gas" generator/engine is your interest, take a look at the booklet below.

Still available for *free* from FEMA and a popular FEMA item prior to Y2K, the booklet made its debut on the 'net after the Y2K rollover when demand for privately printed copies waned.
