I just picked up an Onan Electric Gen. Set/ Diesel model & spec# 12?0 (possibly 12.0) DJC-3CE/2236T Ser# 0973696406 120/240 Ph.1 KVA 12 KW 12 P.F. 1.0 (anyone know what P.F. stands for?) Amps 50 Hz 60 RPM 1800 Batt 12

Can anyone give me any info on this gen set? There are no watts listed on it. Anything would be helpful. Thanks

Hi Lee,that genset produces 12,000 watts.

P.F. stands for power factor.

Can you post the diesel engine's specs/information from the tag?

And also post pictures of this unit?

Thanks...schramm...

I can't find a tag on the diesel engine, where would it be located? As for pictures of the unit, do you want just the front and back views, or some particular part? Do you have any idea how the injectors are supposed to be set? How about the proper adjustment for the governor? Could also use the valve clearances and whether they are to be set hot or cold. Are there manuals available for this unit?

Hi Brenda,I don't know about this particular unit. I just knew what P.F. meant and what the watt's rating was.I was just curious of what engine it used and what it looked like from pictures.

Front and side pictures would be great(what ever shows the most detail).

And I'm sorry but I don't know how to set the injectors or governor or valve clearances.Manuals are probably still available and you can most likely get them from the Onan company themselves or I believe their is a man on this site who has old manuals for sale as well.

Good luck...schramm...

Thats a popular unit built up to 1995 I Believe. The first two serial digits give the year. Is the first digit a "0"?. All literature is available from Cummins Onan in Greensboro. I have two of them, as well as 3 other DJE 's All use the same voltage regulator and all of them had failed. Other than that It's probably the best home generator there is , unless noise is a problem. Theye are noisy.

Brenda, DJC operator and repair manuals are available on ebay, from seller n2gravely. He is a great guy. There are two controls on the J series generator, one sets speed, and another sets how quickly the engine returns to governed speed after a sudden change in demanded output power. If that second control is set too much, you get "hunting". It is all in the manual, I would wait until you acquire the manual.

You cannot take too many pictures.

Congratulations on buying this great unit. I own an Onan DJE, which by now works wonderfully.

Does anybody know the proper R P M s for my D J E ??
In order to get my rated 110 volts/240 It seems to be around 3000 R P M s
I thought it should produce full voltage at 1800 R P M s ???
Where did I go wrong ??

ALL xDJx Series Gensets ARE 1800 Rpm 4 Pole Genends from the Factory.
If you need to get to 3000 Rpm to get your voltage up, then you got a
problem with your Genend. I see that you have a "T" in your Spec Code.
That tells "Me" that your Genend is a Magniciter Version and not a YD,
like the later builds. These are a bit trickier to get working when there
is something wrong. Either Billy or Gunny can help with Magniciter ends.
