Re: 1940's Kohler DP-32 gas generator, serial# 84531, (1 1/2 KW). How do you adjust the engine timing? I need more detail than is available from the service manual, which I have. Carelessly I removed the timing gear from the distributor without noting or marking where the teeth of the meshing gears line up. I noticed there are marks on both gears. Should the gear I removed be meshed so that these marks line up? (The manual explains what to do with the pistons-I understand that.) But how do you make the "fine adjustment" afterwards, which the manual calls for but doesn't explain? (There is a little "window" which may have some bearing on the problem but it appears opaque and there was no mention of this window in the manual) I have no timing light and don't think it's required here. The generator is not at hand. It's 200 miles distant at a remote camp.(I'm not a mechanic-in case you didn't guess.) Thanks for any help! Dick Brautigam Brunswick, Maine 207-725-4483
