Default hercules 4-cylinder

I recently acquired a Delco Model 30AD1, 110 VDC, 3000Watt lightplant with a Hercules 4-cylinder engine as power. On the outside the unit looks great missing only the distributor cap and fuel pump. I totally disassembled the lightplant and everything was OK until I removed the oil pump and camshaft. Apparently the gent that sold me the plant had "freed up" the engine by cranking it over and over and evidently the sludge impacted gear driven oil pump refused to rotate, thus mutilating both the oil pump gear and the meshing camshaft gear and actually bending the oil pump shaft holding the gear. I'm hoping that one (or more) of you will have a camshaft, oil pump unit, distributor cap and a fuel pump you are willing to part with, or have a parts Hercules engine you would part with, or know of some leads as to where I could obtain the parts.

The Hercules block has the numbers/letters of D16, then CWC, then REO-1. The engine bores are 2 1/2" X 3" strokes and the serial # is 68001E. I hope this identifies the engine. My winter project is at a complete standstill. I know that a lot of Hercules and continentals were used for fork trucks and industrial equipment and that Hercules is still in business, but I wanted to try the "gang" first.

Thank you in advance for any help and thank you Harry for the Sparkarcs site!!!!!!

Loren,

I have a 30AD1 automatic light plant. The engine on mine is a Hercules model ZXA, serial #305242. it is 2 1/2 X 3. also. Mine is restored and works great. the radiator restoration was quite a project. I have an old catalog with a Hercules listing in it and it lists the ZXA. I don't have any leads for parts but try looking for model ZXA. I understand the Hercules of that vintage were used in boats also. Good luck!

Tom and Keith, thanks for responding to my Hercules parts wanted. With your info and leads I hope to be able to locate the replacement parts and also maybe a manual for the Hercules ZXA engine (hint, hint, I would gladly pay for copy and mailing costs). I have stopped restoration on the Delco until I am sure I can find the parts, but in the mean time will go back to trying to get my Alamo Farm Plant Silent Alamo running. This has now been an 18 month undertaking and am still having fuel pickup problems. If anyone out there has a Silent Alamo I would like very much to pick your brain 'cause my Silent Alamo Is not even one of the four types listed in the Alamo Farm Plant Owners Manual. Again, thank you Tom and Keith for your help and I definitely welcome more info and assistance from more Hercules Owners!!!!!

Loren,

Sorry, but I don't have a manual on the Hercules. My engine was basically in good condition internally. I don't think it ever did much running. I never even pulled the head. I had to do more work on the generator and controls, other than the radiator on which I had to build new top and bottom tanks. I have a copy of the generator and control pages from a manual for a 15AD1 that I got from a fellow in Minnesota. They are similar to the 30AD1. The 15AD1 however, has a 2 cylinder engine that I understand is Delco made. I have nothing on the 30AD1. I have a Cletrac tractor with an OOC Hercules but no engine manual.
