Hello Tom
I have an Explanation for the 1m21 model code if this helps. "In models below 1000 watts first numerals indicate capacity in KW. (1= 1KW) The first letter following the numeral indicates methode of starting. (M= manual) The second, third and fourth letters indicate special modifications. (2 in 21= 120 volts AC! and the 1 in 21 indicates 1 phase with 2 wires) No other information on the "U" part in the model number. Hope this helps. Sorry if this answer took so long but I only found this site yesterday. --mike-- |

Aloha, the way I determine if it is ac or dc is by using an analog vom meter. Put your probes across the output and set your meter to the highest scale if voltage is unknown and select ac on your meter. If it is ac there will be a reading and if you select dc there will be no reading. If it is dc, there will be a reading if the meter is set to dc and also there will be a reading if set to ac (usually a little higher than dc). I use a Simpson 260 vom and it works for me but I would assume different brands analog,or digital will work the same and if it doesn't, I would like to hear about it.

Probably the single source of Kohler information is Frank DeWitt's page. http://www.home.eznet.net/~fdew/kohler1.htm

Are you sure about that first setting? If an analog meter is set for AC, it will also read DC, but not accurately. if you set the meter to DC, it will read DC, but not AC.
The meter movement itself is a DC movement and the meter assembly will have a small rectifier to change the AC to DC so the DC meter movement will read AC. When yo switch the meter to DC, the rectifier is not in the circuit anymore. In summary, a DC meter wont read AC. An AC meter will read AC and also DC, but not DC accurately |

Aloha, yes you are correct. Somehow I made a boo-boo. Sorry about that, sometimes I do things without thinking.

Aloha Russ, yeah and guess what I got for father's day? My daughter gave me a Sony Handycam and the instruction book is about 1/2" thick with zillions of instructions so now I am in trouble.
