Default Kohler Generator

Kohler questions: Model IM 21-U Crank Start Belt drive fan on Gen. end . I have a 4 cyl. water cooled plant. Where is the timing mark to set the mag? It is 115 AC, there is a resistor on top and a small solonide under the cover. the solonide never closes when you start it. It charges OK what is there purpose? Where would I get a Diapheram for the fuel pump? ( AC Pump) Are there any manuals Available? I can e mail photo if it will help. Thanks for any help Tom

I tried to access the site you posted, but it came up with a not available message a couple times. This sometimes happens with web sites, but was the address correct as posted? Thanks.

I corrected the address when I previewed my message, because I got the same results until I corrected it. Somehow the correction didn't take. Let's try again.

I just tried it in the preview mode and it worked. This site was made by Frank DeWitt, who I've met personally, and is a heck of a nice guy who has put some real energy into it.

For the fuel pump diaphram, try:

Antique Auto Parts Cellar P.O. Box 3 S. Weymouth, MA 02199 781-335-1579

He sells complete kits, and will not sell just the diaphram. The kit costs around $25. Includes new pivot shafts, spring clips and check valves, and gaskets. He will also need the AC pump part number. It's stamped near the mounting flange. I think mine is p/n 1521799, but check yours to be sure. Happy generating! Thanks Harry.

My old Delco-Light generators with AC fuel pumps had a problem with all the diaphragms. I live in southern Illinois and we have a lot of 10% Methanol in our gas. (big corn and farm country) The gasahol dissolved the diaphragms. I never did get a repair kit for mine but my propane dealer was changeing out some of his regulators from the large ones to the small ones. He gave me all the diaphragms he had, which was 15 or 20. I cut new diaphragms from the large ones to repair the fuel pumps. They were about 8" in diameter with a small (5/16") hole in the middle. They were pretty thin so I use two per pump. They have not given me any trouble for three years.

I would check to make sure the repair kits will withstand the "new" gas, either gasahol or that with "MTB" or what ever it is. It is different because either one makes a pretty good paint remover.

You better get a pretty good paint or add a hardner to it to make it gas "proof".

That's been my experience. As they say, "your results may vary".

Thanks Randy: It looks like the one in the photo Gus posted. There is 9663 stamped obove the pivot pin on the mounting flange. It says model B on the bottem. I'll call and check on that num.. We also get the new fuel here in the summer that eats paint ect. I'll see what they think Ed ,Thanks ,Tom
