Default ONANIMITY

Onan Guru's wherever you are.... I need your help!! Just bought a 10HQ-3R8-1D plant SN96B550314, 10KW 1PH 120/240AC, powered by a 4cyl Continental watercooled F140 flathead. I'm looking for a service manual, at least for the generator end, and some idea of the machine's vintage. Doesn't have much of a control panel, just a Basler XR2004V regulator (looks pretty modern) and an AC voltmeter. Thanks, Harvey

You should check with onan about the owner/service manuals this is were i got mine. As far as the age if i read it right it was made in September 1956. Goto the following web page (http//members.aol.com/generatorgus/onandating.jpg) for serial # infomation.

Thanks, Joseph. I checked Gus's site and sure 'nuff I found the serial codes there. I still haven't been able to contact Onan via the web. Looks like Cummins/Onan is pushing new diesel products...I havent yet found any reference to support for older gas machines. I'll keep tryin'.....Thanks to you too, Gus!!

I contacted Precision thru their site. They don't support older Onans, but I wouldn't hesitate to call them for any of Onan's aircooled machines. I did, however, strike gold today. It seems that welding suppliers are more supportive of older generators. Thru those channels I was given the number of Cummins/Onan in Syracuse, NY, 315-437-2751 and was lucky enough to find brushes and springs for this 50's vintage machine. The parts manager even agreed to make me a copy of the manual for this machine, which she has been treasuring for many years. She did advise me, though, that what's on the shelf today may not be there tomorrow. Yep, I went ahead and ordered a complete set of brushes & springs. A very positive experience...Harvey
