Is there anyway to tell if a 4 cylinder koler generato is AC orDC with out takeing it apart. The tag is missing. thanks mike

Look at the number of pole bolts on the outside of the generator frame. DC units have 4 sets of two bolts, while AC have six sets of two.

Are these pole bolts external on the side or on the end? i looked at this thing a couple of weeks ago and not sure what i am looking for. thanks mike.

Mike;

There may be a easier way to tell if it is DC or AC. If it has "slip rings" to pick up the power it is AC and if it has a "segmented commutator" it is a DC generator.

I hope this helps.
