Default hobart Welder question

I have A hobart G300 welder poweed by a 6 cylinder chrysler. It sat in the barn and rats ate the wires off the exciter coils. I replaced the coils with working coils of the same number from a G261 (jeep powered welder) When Installed the coils in the G300 the unit would not excite. The 4 brushes are free and im only getting 1.1 to 2.4 vdc to the receptical on the control panel. The voltage is the same if i unhook the coils also. Would the coils need to be polarized even if they came from a working welder that had been run a few days prior? I have heard that they could of lost there residual magnitizism. I assume polarizing them would solve this. Any help with should I or do I need to polarize them? Also am open to any suggestions of how to polarize exciter coils.

Taking the coils off would disrupt the residual magnetic field.

Does this gen use the generatot to start the engine, a regular starter motor or Both? If it has the gen as a starter using that should recharge the coils.

Re flashing the field takes a small power source ( some use a couple of d batteries or a 9V battery ) This trick is to know what polarity the exciter wires are then apply power to the field then run the engine untill it produces power.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Hobart G-213 welder/genset? Pdf format would work fine.
Thanks in advance
