The CD and CE (1cyl and 2cyl) engines were made in the UK by R A Lister at Dursley in Gloucestershire, UK.

The production of both types was commenced in WWII and although initially the engines were sent out as kits, the later engines were entirely made in the USA.

Threads are the main difference, US engines having SAE threads while UK had BSW and BSF threads except for the injection system which was mainly metric (The design for the injection system was copied from Bosch)

I have a manual but don't have copying facilities. I can give you most of the details about tappet clearances etc., but I think there may also be an occasional copy show up on ebay and on abebooks.com the secondhand book site.

I have two CE's and one CD with a 110V DC 7kW dynamo.

Sorry, Roger, I could have addressed that in my previous posting.

Production in the UK commenced with engine No 350006 in 1933 (CD) and 380001 (CE)

The USA models were originally kit-built from UK-produced parts, but full USA production would have been under way by the mid 1940's.

I have a Number Change listing for the Lister engines which details the "Americian Built" CD & CE engines as starting at serial No 1001. Unfortunately, there is no date on this publication to give a commencement point of that production.

I do have a very good ex-Lister contact who I will talk to over the weekend. Peter

I spoke with David Harris this morning, and he hasn't any more information on the engine dating other than that which I gave yesterday.

He did however mention that engine production started earlier than I had thought, probably 1936 to 1937, and these were assembled initially by Nordberg Inc.

He also thought that it would have been quite possible that 3000 engines would have been supplied as kits before full production began in the USA, so you need to check the data plate on the injection pump to see if yours is USA supplied or UK supplied.

David also gave me a personal contact at Lister-Petter Inc who I have emailed with a request for further information.

Nothing yet, BUT:

On the injection pump there will be a type plate, and if you can get the date code off that (two-letter code) I (or you) can check on the coding list on our website:

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/Injection/CAVDate.htm

This assumes the pump is a UK-built CAV or CAV-Bosch model. If it is an American Bosch then we're back to waiting for a response from the guy at Lister in the US.
