I have a 3750 watt generator that will not put out proper voltage. I have done some tests and think that the problem is in the regulator. The excitor is outputing 25 volts but the rotor leads only register 3 volts DC. If I apply 12 volts to the stator the generator will output close to the proper voltage. So if I am on the right track, where can I get a replacement regulator at a reasonable price? Or info on repairing this one? Thanks.

The Generac generator and pressure washer divisions are now owned by Briggs and Stratton. Sears has a nasty habit of making changes on their products so the owner has to go to them for parts and service. If the part was made exclusively for Sears and they no longer stock it you could have a problem.

Thanks for the tip. Did some looking and found that the XL or PRO series of the B&R use a regulator and has the same wiring. Am planning to order one and try it. When you compare $55 for the B&R to $271 for the sears unit, I think it's worth a try. Any input would be welcome as my thinking has been known to be dangerous at times.

Thanks

It should work. You did the background that the "average homeowner" would not know how to do (which Sears banks on), so it ought to work. The only differences might come in wire color coding (small chance).

Thanks,

I was hoping that would be the case. I was not quite sure how picky the system would be and if it could handle any differences in the windings. Since this unit covers several sizes of generators I figured it would. I just needed that warm fuzzy to go ahead with it. And your right, I am not your "average homeowner" but this is the first time I have dug this deep into a generator.

Thanks again.
