Default Gaar Scott steam tractor

I just bought an 1886 Gaar Scott 13hp tractor. I would like to know about how much it weighs so that I don't tear up anything moving it 600 miles. Also, any other information you may know about colors, water tank dimentions, etc. would be appreciated.

Here is a picture I took of a small G-S at National Threshers Reunion (Wauseon, Ohio)this summer.

G-S seemed to use several different locations for the front water tank. You might try Jack Norbeck's "Encyclopedia of American Steam Traction Engines" pp.122-129 for other arrangements.

I believe Maple has a Tigerpull Line decal, but I don't know about the other G-S lettering.

There is a man by the name of Bill Roberts who lives in Summerset VA. He ownes a Gaar Scott traction engine in restored condition. Maybe he could help you. I don't know his phone number.

For the record, I could be mistaken, but I believe the engine pictured above is Bill Robert's engine. If not his, it is exactly like it, wood front axle and all. Mr. Robert's engine can be seen every year at the show on his property, Somerset Steam and Gas Engine Assn.

I believe they completely overhauled the engine a few years back, maybe right before that picture was taken.

I would also like to see Mr. Wall's engine.

That is Bill Roberts' little Gaar Scott. The photo was taken at National Threshers in Wauseon, OH. Dennis Rupert's 25 double Rumely is in the background.

Say, furface.........

see where you are at Pine Bluff. Where do you keep this little jewel, and what's the engine's story? Beautiful little engine, and one I didn't know about in this part of the world.

Gents,
Steamdaddy's actually ran that little jewel around! John keeps it up at Mt. Pleasant IA, and he and his son John Jr. have been kind enough to let me handle the throttle a couple of times. A nice, nice little engine, and nice owners!

John also was nice enough to part with his old G/S handfed separator, which I prize very dearly.

Here are a couple more pics. One is Johnny & Steam Daddy on Gaar. The other one is the Gaar working the veneer mill at Mt. Pleasant.
We got the engine from Sherman Malcolm outside of Peoria, IL. Before that it belong to a Richard or Dick Fosdick from Northern Illinois, I believe. Also, after reading in an early catalog, we believe it may be a 10 hp instead of a 13 hp because the catalog says 10" wide wheels are 10 hp and 12" wide wheels are 13 hp.

See, can't get one over on my Little Bro. I guess what threw me off was the Pine Bluff location...Arkansas is part of my "stompin' ground" so I thought the engine was there and I didn't know about it. Real nice little rig.

Mike,

I'm working on the guy, I even thought about a trip up there this weekend since it is so hot, a nice ride in the car with the A/C would break up this fine sunshine. I think the phone will be ringing sooner than later.
