Default B&S Model B compression release

Hello. I have a 1942 Briggs & Stratton Model B and it doesn't have the compression release on it. I was wondering if this was a later addition or were they on all engines. THANKS

I have 2 model B's and neither has a compression release. I also have 4 ZZ's and none of them have compression releases. I'm thinking the release was a rather rare option.

Compression release was only for the engines with hand crank starter.

I have a Briggs "Z" or "ZZ" on a trash pump and a model "B" both with compresion release. It probably depended on what the engine was used on as to wether or not it had the release.

I think our '46 B has the compression release and it is a hand crank.
