Default Maytag questions

Playing with the little engines today... waiting for parts for the bigger ones. I have a Maytag twin, model 72?, with the S321 base that has one one of the mounting ears broke off, and missing. Haven't noticed any S321 bases on Ebay for sale. Is this a common base, and what should I expect to pay for one? I could probably make a lug out of steel, but would I be able to weld it to the cast base somehow? The base cover S305 has been welded up around the kick start shaft lug.. Must be a weak spot on these engine? Thanks for any ideas.

The S-321 tanks are getting scarce and are desirable among Maytag collectors. I would repair it. You can braze or weld a mild steel piece. Grind it to fit right and you should have no problems. The Maytag tanks are pretty good to weld/braze on but I would recomend that you at least warm up the tank good with a torch and after you weld it cool it as slowly as possible. The tank covers do break once in a while but are relatively easy to find. Good Luck!

Hi, Have a look at Marvins Maytag Shed. He just may have that tank base laying around. He has been and indespensible help in aiding me on restorations of my Maytag Engines. Clik the link below and I do see that base there for $50.00. His website is http://www.maytagshed.com. Enjoy the love of Maytags!
