Default Piston rings

Getting back to Engines. How bout some input on this question . What will provide better sealing in a slightly worn bore , a piston with 2 rings in each groove or a piston with a single ring in each groove ?

All comments appreciated

I would say two rings in each groove, with two you can stagger the gaps thus getting a better seal. I have a six horse Fairbanks Morse "H" that had been rebuilt sometime in the past. The ring grooves were widened and two 1/4 inch rings are in each groove. The compression is very good. Hope this helps a little.

Hi ED For what it's worth I think 2 rings stagered works best. Some people on Smokestak (I Think) Said they will work there way around till the ends get lined up with each other. My 2 HP Witte has 2 in each Groove and it runs well. Good Luck Have you tried the hardner in the paint Yet? Been waiting to hear how it worked out. I have a Pump to paint soon. Tom Jr.

I agree with Joe & Tom, I have used double rings on many of my engines and I think it works better than using just one, especially on wide grooved pistons.
