Default Maytag Washer Questions

Hello Maytag guys. I have some questions on a Maytag Washing Machine that followed me home. Photos to accompany my questions are at...... http://www.geocities.com/baja/canyon/4192/maytag/ 1. My wringer drive turns, but the rollers don't. What's broke, and what's it suppose to look like. 2. The engine mounts aren't original. Mine appear to be made out of bed rail angle iron, and don't attach to the washer base, but are just sitting on top. Does anyone have a good photo of an original attachment? 3. My serial Number on the washer is 994356. What year is it? I wasn't able to figure it out from the Maytag Clubs web site. 4. Alas, the photo titled "whatsthis".... What is this paddle looking thing for? Came with the washer, laying loose inside. Thanks for any help! Tom

I am no Maytag expert but it looks like you have an early square tub washer that originally used a model 92 engine with a later model twin mounted under it. The first twin was not produced till 1937 and your washer looks to be much older than the engines vintage. I have a model 31 washer that is all original I can send a photo of, it is a square tub with the later model transmission shifter on it.

Your washer appears to be a model 80 or model 82. They were made from 1922 until 1927. The model 80 was electric and the model 82 was gas engine powered. This washer would not have had the twin cylinder engine. If it had a gas engine, it would have been a model 82 or a very early model 92 engine.

Tom, That paddle looking thing that came with your washer is the drip plate from the wringer head. It fits below the lower wringer roll and determines which way the water will run depending on which direction the rollers are turning. Milan , OH
