We got a parts tractor 10-20 that we got running. Well one of the problems it has is that there is a hole in the head behind the exhaust valve that goes into the water jacket. My brother stick welded it which patched the hole. However, there is a slight water leak. Everytime we try to patch it more, it seems the water leak does not go away. Our theory is that the different metals cool at a different rate and then crack. Could we braze over the area to seal any cracks? Will the braze melt from the exhaust?
I've read an article on rebuilding a model T or A engine where they took the head and sealed the water jackets with really milky expoxy. They taped offed the water parts and filled it up with expoxy let it sit for a bit and drained the rest. Does any know what kind of expoxy it is? |

I don't know anything about the epoxy fix, but the exhaust tenperature is not high enough to melt brass, if you brazed the hole shut. The cylinder head would have to get cherry red in order to melt the brazed repair.

In either welding or brazzing You should pull the head and heat it cociderably so the welded or brazzed area can cool with the rest of the part. This is the case with all cast iron repair.
