Default Ebay Phone Scam

Is it common practice for Ebay to call on the phone & offer you specials??? I got a call from them, the other day, offering me special rates & such. Kinda surprised me, too, cause I'm on the "NO CALL" list! ">

I'd be extremely suspicious, especially if they ask for your password.

I have "played" on e-bay for at least 4 or 5 years and have never heard of anyone getting a phone call ofering deals. I would contact their "spoof" dept. Sounds like a new scam to me. It just doesn't pass the smell test.

About the no call list.

If a person does business with the company that is calling you, they have the right to telemarket you for 6 months after the transaction, its called a "pre-exsiting business agreement". Anyways you have to be put on a do not call list for each business that calls you. There isnt a "big red button" to take you off the lists.

I used to work at a call center for a few weeks.

They did call me once a year or two ago to confirm a bid on put on an item which I believe was a charity auction. They didn't ask for a word or anything, guess they just wanted to make sure I was the one who bid on the item.

The Ebay spoofers are REALLY at it this week. Just got TWO more in the last minute! I have reported all of them to www.spoof@ebay.com by FORWARDING the entire spoofed mail AND pasting the header to the message. The HEADER (which lists all the paths the email has taken) is needed to trace the email origin and is not always included in its entirety in a simple forwarded message. Craig

Actually Zach, if I remember correctly, Randy is from Wisconsin and in Wisconsin we do have a big red button thanks to our state legislature. However, you are correct in that companies can call within a set amount of time from a transaction and not for profits can call.

As far as it goes in terms of the call though, I would be very suspicious. Especially since ebay themselves is a marketplace and not an actual retailer.
