Very little! I BELIEVE (that's to save my ass in case I'm wrong!) the MAIN difference is the method of engine lubrication. The 45's were "updated" to internal oil pump lubrication. Some 40's were "updated" to this method and Case didn't even take the lubricator mounting bracket off the tractor! The 45 at the Krause sale still had a lubricator bracket on the tractor and the cylinder oiler fitting holes were simply closed with pipe plugs. I think it was a step backwards and much prefer the lubricator method. Some claimed the cylinders weren't adequately oiled by the internal pump method........which I think is a bunch of hooey. I DO know you'd better have a supply of cheap gas 'cause they sure like it!!!!

Early ones ( Before '22 ) were Green with Red Wheels. Later ones were Grey as the Pic Above. I had a 1919 15 - 27 and a 1928 18 - 32. People have argued with me about the colors but I have a letter from Case to back my theory up. They didn't Do Much for me so I sold them...

The early, some say real 22-40s,had a multi line,15?,lubicator with lines to all cylinders and bearings. The late 22-40 and 25-45s had splash lube with a four line lubricator to the cylinders. Early tractors did not have an eagle on the radiator. Later tractors had manifold heat adjustment at the end cylinders. Some changes in carbs. My 1923 22-40 has the newer lube system and is in the first group that had the eagle radiator. I have part books if you need info. Some early tractors had the complete engine replaced with the updated one by Case from what I have been told.
