Make sure the spark plug wire is clean on the end going in to the coil. The coil itself might be going bad, hope not the new ones are pricey.

Hi, Make sure is it clean behind the flywheel. Another trick was to clean the bushing end of where the back mounting plate mounts to the shaft end. Make sure its clean there. Make sure the points are clean as well and gapped to .020 The spark plugs originally were gapped to .037 I have found lowering the gap to possibly .020 helped alot as well. Spark plug wire connections to the mag are clean and not hanging loose. Hope these few pointers get ya in the right direction.

Inspect/switch plugs. Also, sometimes the crimped on brass/steel connector (at the spark plug end of the wire) is corroded at the inside. There is a shart point on the connector that penetrates the insulation. Better to run the center wire out and wrap around a clean area of the connector.

Brian, I've had this happen to me on a twin. A re-adjustment of the coil armature on the backing plate to specs may improve the spark. It work for me one day, and then the coil went dead. Almost like it burned itself out. The old twin coils are famous for this sort of thing. The surface of the armature is supposed to be at the outside edge of the rib. If its not exactly in the right position it does greatly affect spark intensity. Hope this helps, Kevin
