Hello. I hope that you all can help me out. I would like to know what difference between the Briggs & Stratton Model Z and the ZZ. I would like to know if the parts are interchangable. THANKS ALL!!

I'd like to know also as I have a Z or a ZZ, but the tag is long missing so I don't know. I've been told that the "Z" had sleeve main bearings & the "ZZ" had roller mains (don't know if this is true or not). - I've not had mine apart to look at the bearings

Guys, most of the parts interchange. Both had ball bearing mains. The two major differances were that the ZZ had a stamped steel flywheel housing and head cover. This helped cooling of the head and allowed the second difference, higher compression, by smaller combustion chamber. This gave more power[1.3 HP] at same rpm. JOE

I don't know all of the specifics of the model Z but I have 4 ZZ's one of which has the cast flywheel housing and "flow-through" cooled cylinder head. The serial number shows it to be a 1945 model.

Hello,

I too have seen "ZZ"s that have the cast flywheel housing. I'm not sure what the diffence is.

Thanks Richard Jensen
