Jeff, I mixed some of this a few months ago. I found that that particular Dulux/Dupont code cross-referenced with a GMC 1978 Fleet (Dark Green Code 46) color. Any paint shop can look up this chip and match it. Mine was mixed as follows:

- Clear Base Enamel (Per Quart)

- LB-10.5

- PB-8

- PG-2Y36

- TW-9

I have no idea what these mean, however I was told to keep this info in case I needed to mix additional amounts. Hope that helps.

Default Fairbanks-Morse Paint Color

I need help finding a paint code for my 1930 Fairbanks-Morse 2 HP Z. I found the paint code "Dulux 93-72001 Green" on the oldengine.org web site. I contacted a Dulux/ICI dealer and they don't recognise the number! I would like a Sherwin Williams # or color if anyone has it. I've had good luck with there industrial enamals. Thanks

Thanks Ed, My FMZ is a spoked flywheel throttling govenor 2HP. I've dug through a bunch of grime and found hints of green. This is my first restoration project and I am having fun already......very stuck flywheels, a valve guide that's cracked in 4 pieces, an iffy FM-R mag, and a pot metal mag gear missing teeth. Thanks to SMOKSTAK I am finding many useful hints and ideas for my preject.

Dulux 72001 is the correct color, but Dulux no longer exists. It contained lead, so the do-gooder liberals decided that we shouldn't have it anymore. One-Shot signpainters paint is the best substitute, but you will have to mix your colors to suit. Al Wait

I have the same engine with original paint, serial number 479279.

It's "very dark green"

Suggest two cans of your fav brand oil based enamel, one dark green, the other black.

Mix a SMALL amount of black into the green to match the color you want.

Model A Ford engine paint looks very good on a F-M engine. It's readily available, an engine paint and it's a very dark green.

Rustoleum makes a "Dark Hunter Green" which is a very close match to the original color.

Thumbs up Re: Fairbanks-Morse Paint Color

If you don't have spray painting equipment like me, Rustoleum Dark Hunter Green is a good match. I have had good results on engines in the past using Rustomeum products. I rebuilt a Fairbanks 1 1/2 hp Z a few years ago and am happy with the color.
