Does that thing have a voltage regulator, if so, might be bad.

I assume your BG Moline is a Delco 12 volt unit with a two unit regulator. Remove the field wire from the regulator and the charge should stop. If you ground the field wire, the generator should go to full output. If this is so, the regulator is bad. Just adjust the vibrating coil to get the correct voltage of 14.3 volts at half throttle. Don't touch the cutout coil. It is the one that is locked on when the unit is running and drops out when stopped.
If the generator is one of the leftover Prestolites, from the Avery days of this model, it will need battery power applied to make the generator go full out. Remember; Delco on a Moline is 'A' circuit and is grounded to make it charge. Prestolite is 'B' circuit and it needs battery power to make it charge. If you have more trouble, email me. Once on a world far far away, I ran a generator and starter shop. Now I work in a Television plant and work as a babysitter to newbie Engineers.
