This is the Bud Stambaugh Rumely I bought on November 30, 2003. Ed Dina was VERY kind and went WAY out of his way to go PA and bid it for me.....and nearly froze parts of his anatomy off in the process. Those of you out East might recall a HUGE storm that blew in shortly after. This tractor BARELY got out of the storm's way and the trucker managed to stay just ahead of it until things finally cleared up in Indiana!! The date of this photo is December 8, 2003. Oh...I drove it off the trailer!!!
The bunkers at the rear of the tractor were, apparently, installed by the first owners as they must have had quite a threshing circuit and needed to carry a lot of additional fuel and water. I considered removing them......but they're staying! ![]() I got some history on this tractor from Dave Shearns, of NY, and LO & BEHOLD THIS sign of the "H. Clyde Davis" agency of Frederick, MD, is the dealer that SOLD THIS TRACTOR! It was on display at the HUGE Rumely Products Collectors annual convention "Celebrating 150 years of Rumely Products". http://www.nationalthreshers.com/

Craig nice looking S. Of all the big tractors there is nothing that will out work an S, and do it all day long. Rumely had it right with this model. My S is my favorite tractor to work.

Craig,
Here is an old picture of your 30-60 in the September 1963 edition of Engineers & Engines. "Bud" Stambaugh says in the caption under the picture that says: "When asked how much money he spent restoring his oilpull, Mr. Stambaugh invoked the fifth amendment as he didn't want people to think he was crazy." I remember you saying pretty much the same thing when the gavel fell. -Mark Thompson http://www.smokstak.com/gallery/file...h_rumely_s.jpg |

That certainly looks a beautiful big tractor! We don't see many (or any) of that model of Rumely in the UK.

Craig, if you look carefully you might still find my fingerprints on that tractor! Spent a few very interesting hours with Bud at the show in Williams Grove, PA back in 2001. The week before I bought his book as told to Brenda S. 'Recollections of an old Rumely man' at another show in which he put his signature. I read that book every once in a while and still enjoy it!

Craig,
She's a beauty. You are a lucky son of a gun! I enjoy the video clips of her running. I see your 30-60 S has a spoked flywheel instead of a solid one AND the cooling system expansion tank out in front of the stack. Was your machine one of those S models that was converted to a 40-60 Z and later re-rated back to 30-60? What's the serial number? |

Serial #69 so it's REALLY weird she got the updates.
Her sister is in Connecticut and got SOME updates but NOT the spoked flywheel. I have a couple poor photo printouts the owner sent me of his.......I should scan one....... I'll use this post as a reminder and do that tomorrow. Both tractors were sold from the same agency mentioned above.......

Here's a couple of perfectly horrible pics of the sister S but they are all I have.
Notice the same "rubber" treatment on the front wheels but the difference on the rears. Also interesting is the louvered AND round hole front cooler panel. Whether this one got the high stack is hard to say but doesn't seem so, the placement of the expansion tank is weird and this one also has a full length canopy. |

Craig, I bought this S on the Frank Heiman's sale in KS in 1998. Serial # is 39. I burn straight Kero and Water when working. Sawed lumber for 8 hours at Boonville MO last year.

Hi
It really sounds more like a Z to me. It has the little oil tank right in front of the radiator/exhaust and not behind it, like all the first series of the light weights. That was not part of the conversion, but part of the switch to 40-60 Z. Combined with the spoked flywheel it more looks like a Z than an S. Nevertheless our S workes fine and starts good. Here a picture on a heavy german LANZ thresher. Gijs |
