There are valid second chance offers and some fakes out there. A valid one will be assigned another ebay # and listed as a second chance offer. THe time period is determined by the seller on how long to allow you the chance to think about it. (1-7 days determined by the seller). The price on the offer will the amount of your bid and not the winning bid.

The second chance offer should not ask you for your personal information (id, item #, etc). If it does, it is a scam. You can verify by not using the email in the second chance offer, but by going back to the item and asking the seller a question... If the address doesn't match up, Beware. The seller should be straight forward with the second chance.

For more info see ebay's help page at:

The last time I had an eBay item for auction, it seemed that each and every runner-up bidder was approached with this same scam. The email responses got to the point that I substituted the attached graphic in place of my auction photos. That stopped the scammers cold! Any eBayer is welcome to copy and use this graphic likewise.
