I have never seen a water cooled Maytag before. This one looks as though it were pieced together at some point. The cylinder and crankcase are not the same shade of rust and grease. Doesn't look like an original piece to me. Maytag might have made them, but somebody else probably made this one up. My opinion. Take it for what it's worth, which is probably not much.

Well..... This opinion probably isn't Worth Much either but I will bet you this is a marriage between a small 2 cycle marine engine and a maytag That my 2 Cents Worth and I'm Stickin To It....

I have seen Maytag watercooled twins, I have heard there were singles - experimental, they used water from the washer. Made hot water for the washer, and cooled the engine! Big problems - freeze ups, and soap scum jambing the cylender cooling passages.
The Twins had their own water resevoir, and copper cooling jackets. The resevior was only good for 1 wash, at which point it had to be refilled.
If this single was cobbled up, it was pretty well made!

It is a common single cylinder Maytag with an outboard (I think maybe Evinrude) cylinder. I have seen these once in a while. They are not original, and put together, but they are unique. Elgin and Maytag made water cooled cylinders for their 1/2hp and 1 hp vertical engines in the mid teens.

I have never seen a water cooled Model 92, but I do know that Maytag sold some of their single upright models with a water cooled cylinder either from the factory or as a replacement option for the air cooled cylinder.

Doesn't mater whether it's original or not some one is going to get at least $581.00 for it. I'm betting on the Mayrude.

We may never know.

My mother had a water cooled maytag twice. Once when the water ran over the tub and the second time was when it fell off the back porch. Merry Christmas

Judging from all the other Maytag stuff they've purchased, it would be no surprise if they read this web-site, and if so, I'd be certain they were not the only Smakstak reader who bid on it !

I hope they got a sleeper and will have a good time with it and then tell everyone about it!

Their eBay "handle" ain't what you'd expect from a rust-junkie, but what the hey......
