Default Briggs & Stratton model Z info

Can any of you Briggs experts out there advise what size the threads are on the screw that forms the contact for the point set (part #291408) on a model Z?

Hopefully I've included a scan for the magneto assembly for a model ZZ which shows the points assembly which should be the same as a model Z.

This is for a young engine restorer who is looking for a tap to thread his engine for the point screw.

Thanks,

Bill

I have been emailing Sky about his screw for a couple days now trying to determine what size it is. I guess i should have asked where it was used first.
I have the Big Red Briggs Book. The scew Bill refers to #291408 is the screw that sandwiches and holds the point set- contact assembly together. the other screw that has the other half of the contact is #63238 for the model Z engine. Unfurtunatly they do not give the size in the book. Still researching.

If I understand the question, the points have the flat bar and the other half of the points to make the contact. The ones that I have are 40 threads by 1/8". I am no expert by no means. Just wanted to help you. Thanks Harry! John

The Question is, is it a #6-40 american fine or a #5-44? Sky measures 11 threads in 1/4" which makes it a 44. He took it to a shop and they said it was 4MM by .60 which i can not find in the book, only 4mm by .75. The 4 mm is a lot closer to what John says it is. 1/8-40. I talked to an old engine guy and he says it is possible that briggs used a nonstandard thread so guys don't but regular machine scres in it for a set of contacts. But he is not positive about that. The delema goes on.

I just measured a #6-32 machine screw with my micrometer and came up with .1325" which is slightly larger than 1/8" (.125), so perhaps it's a #5? Don't think any of those old engines used metric sizes other than for spark plug threads in some cases??
