Does anyone know if IH made the Farmal B with a wide front.I'm thinking about looking for a small Farmal to pull a IH wagon with several IH and McCormick engines mounted on it.I thought an A,B,C,or Cub but I want a wide front. Thanks Mark:

i am working on a 1940 farmall b, now. i may be wrong, but i don't think you will find a factory wide front farmall b. there was one on ebay several months back, but the guy finnally admitted that it was homemade.

I have never seen a model B with a wide front.

You can put a wide front from an A on a B.

The Farmall A and B both had what the call "Cultivision", where the engine was offset to the left and the controls were offset to the right for better view of a belly mounted mower or row cultivator. The A was the wide front version, and the B had a narrow front. I suppose you could modify a B to have a wide front end, but from the factory, they were the narrow type.

The "B" was the two row version of the "A". Same motor etc. The left rear axle housing was long to cover the second row. Narrow front to go between the rows. There are far more "A's" out there than "B's". An "A" front end would not be wide enough without modifying it. If you have a "B" to work with I would keep it original. You would have a lot more lookers like me that drove one when I was a little kid. Never been that little since except in mind sometimes.

I have a B, BN and a Super A (I'd know). A's have wide fronts and B's have narrow fronts. It would be too much of a hastle (but it is possible) to switch a B front with an A front for me to try. I dont think any farmer back in the day would even hastle with it either. A's have the left drop housing sucked right up to the differential, and the B's have long axel housings on both sides. If it is an A, the serial # tag should say FAA or FAAV (for an AV) then followed by a 3, 4, 5, or a 6 number digit. If it is a super, it should have a hydraulic rig set up on it, and a water pump. Hope this helps!
