Default Coil needed for a Briggs 23D. HELP!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a coil for a Briggs 23D? I am rebuilding one, and the previous owner somehow had an external coil rigged up to it. Not sure how it worked though.

Pleas email or PM me with any ideas. Thanks! glock35ipsc@netscape.net

Part number 296834. Your local Briggs dealers might still have one on a shelf.
Check eBay

Pretty sure I saw a complete coil assembly on eBay for the "23" yesterday!

If you don't want to spend the money on a new coil, you can use a car coil and a battery and still use the same points.

Go to ASECC.com & do a search, there is a guy there with plans to covert a later-model Briggs 3-legged coil (I think) to use on the 23 and other "Magnimatic" engines.

If this coil is under the flywheel I have what you want, new in the box. Not an arm & a leg price either.
thanks, Brian Lynch, Wellsville, NY.

Thanks guys. I did find some NOS coils for $39, so I got a couple of them.
