Thumbs down Early Fairbanks Colors Type H, T, N

I have seen several Fairbanks H, T, and N's that are painted anywhere from black to brewster green to forest green, red primer and red. Is there a determining factor for color and if so what is it? Was it based on year, engine model or just what they had on hand?
