Default Engine on cover of Wendel's softcover book

Hello,
I have wondered for a long time about the beautiful engine pictured on the softcover of Wendel's big book. It's tag says, "Bayley(?)". Strangely, there is no mention, that I could find, of that engine in the book. Does anyone have any insight?
Thank you, Coolhand Luke.

For what it's worth, from what I remember talking to Wendel a few years ago, that engine is actually a model. He didn't pick it for the cover, and didn't like it. The soft cover is as hard to find as the hard cover, but Wendel is supposedly working on an updated version or at least a reprint.

Here is a photo of that cover. I bought this soft cover a year ago and paid as much as a hardcover goes for now on eBay ($150 - $200 ).

Question Re: Engine on cover of Wendel's softcover book

I have wondered the same thing. A lot of the picture does not make sense with the knobs and then the upside down oiler toward the front. Is this a joke or what?
