Question Briggs Engines

I dug around in the dark today and got some numbers off 2 old Briggs engines that have been sitting around for awhile. I am looking for info on these engines

The first being a Model Y Serial 305712

The second one was a little harder to get info off of
I think its a Model 8R6
Type 107857
Serial 297905

Thanks
Mike

Mike your Y was made in Aug. 1936. It looks like the 8R6 was made in Dec. 1952. Let me know what other information you are looking for.

Briggs & Stratton Serial Numbers

A lot of Y's were used for washing machines. And with a gear reduction on the 8, I would say that it was probably on a garden tractor. The Y is worth getting if in ok shape, and the 8 is not quit as desirable as the Y.

Actually, if you find the right buyer the 8R6 is quite saleable (is that a word?!). All too often small garden tractors or mowers have had their engines removed before being placed in an auction. A number of mowers (Snappin Turtle comes to mind) and small walk behind garden tractors used the 8R6. Too bad it isn't a 9R6-talk about a hard one to find when you really need one.
