The kurz & root with the 572 cont eng .I read a post that you said you had a
manual for it .Would like to get one for it.Also looking for a replacment engine.
The gov apperantly in the injecton pump let loose and the motor ran away,
rod thru block, broke off injection pump needless to say its in bad shape.It only shows 80 hours on meter.The unit was made by The O'Brien Machine Co.
The gen mod no. is E1512m1033 and is a 60KW I had thought about using a different motor but its going to take a big flywheel to mount gen to it or it will take a lot of machine work to mate them together.Anyway any thoughts
or help will be appreciated.

Helsasser;

Good to hear from you.
I have a complete 60 KW Szczekeley (not sure of spelling) military genset with a Kurz & Root generator & a Continental RD-572 engine. I can look up gen model if you want. I have the TM operation manual for it. I also have the Continental Company engine manual & copies I made. I also have 2 disassembled RD-572 engines with some parts missing and with new parts to overhaul one of them. Some of the new parts like piston rings are damaged due to poor storage. There is a rebuilt injector pump & new pistons and bearings. I thought I'd assemble one of them or keep it for spares. One main bearing cap is missing from the good block. There are no spare injector nozzles. There is only one pair of heads. One block has stuck pistons.
There is an extensive wiring diagram on the gen set. A local engine club was given the gen set & like most engine clubs acted like electricity and magnetism were black magic & did nothing with it but sell it. There were a few meters missing which I have obtained.
Ed in Rockford Illinois.

Hello Ed,

I noticed in your reply that you have a PE-95 generator.

Last fall a friend offered me a free PE-95K with a Jeep engine and Onan alternator. I thought it would be a good project to get this unit going again. It has about 800 hours on the meter. The alternator is in good shape, but the engine needs some work. One intake valve was stuck, and the others needed to be replaced as well. The carb was full of mouse nests and the exhaust manifold needs some repair. So far I have purchased the parts, rebuilt the carburetor, and freed up the velocity governor which was stuck. Winter has stopped the project for now, but I'm looking foreward to continuing in the spring.

So far I have obtained a Jeep service manual for the engine, and the origional wiring diagram from Onan. However, I have no documentation on the governor speed control assembly. Is this anything you can help me with? I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks

Kevin

PE-95;
When I get time, I'll look to see what I have on the governor. What is the letter after "PE-95", & a speed rating?

As far as I know, the letter following the PE-95 is a revision code.

From what information I have been able to find so far, and this information may or may not be correct:

A, B, & C are Ford ONY Magneto powered 1200 RPM 5KW 115Volt, 12volt electric start with a battery charger through the exciter.

F is a Willys Overland MB-441 powered, 5KW, 120-240 volt, 6 volt start, and the only one with a separate starter and battery charging generator. It is also the only one with an automatic voltage regulator.

G & H used the Willys Overland JP-441 engine, 1800 RPM, 10KW, 120-240 volt, 12 volt start.

My unit is a K. It uses a Willys L134 jeep engine, 1200 RPM, 10KW, 120-240 volt, 12 volt start. According to the serial number on the Onan generator, it was made in Sept. 1952

In answer to question on PE-95 governor: I have no answer. My manual covers up to rev H and nothing on the Wyllis 135 engine.
Sorry

Regarding the above manuals and parts: The manuals are:
125 unbound page (I can bind with plastic finger binder.) photocopy of Continental Motors Operation & Maintenance Instructions for 6 Cylinder Diesels Models: TD-6427, TD-427, RD-6572, RD-572, SD-6802, SD-802;
Army TM 5-6115-227-10 OPERATOR'S MANUAL GENERATOR SET, DIESEL ENGINE: 60KW, AC, 120/208 240/416 V,3 PHASE, 60 CYCLE, CONVERTIBLE TO 50 KW 50 CYCLE, SKID MOUNTED (SZEKELY MODEL 501) W/CONTINENTAL ENGINE MODEL RD-572 (FNS 6115-608-9985)
The engine spec is 305. The Rurz & Root generator A.C. GENERATOR rating is KW 60/50, P.F. 8, VOLTS 120/208 *240 240/416 *416 AMPS 208/104 *86.6, PHASE 3, CYCLES 60/*50, MODEL E1512M1033, RPM 1800/*1500;
*50 CYCLE RATING;
D.C. EXCITER WATTS 2000, VOLTS 125, AMPS 16, SERIAL NO. 504A7-6428N66**, DUTY CONT. **from manual This manual covers the entire set- engine & generator & other parts. It is for serial numbers 501-1 to 501-186. It contains 53 pages. I could copy & bind it. I do not have the Organizational Maintenance Manual TM 5-6115-227-20. I made microfilm cards of the circuit diagram plate. I know that this same engine size was also made as a gasoline engine.
I hope this helps. I'll try to send it. I lost it all last time & had to retype it all.
