Thumbs up Steam Clock in Indianapolis, Indiana

There is a steam clock at the Indiana State Museum in near downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. This clock is 17 feet tall and has 8 brass whistles. It plays a bit of "Back Home Again in Indiana" every 15 minutes and a more complete version at the top of the hour. The Indiana State Museum is now located in its fairly new facility. There is also a Foucault Pendulum (which was moved from the earlier Museum) which demonstrates the earth's rotation. The Museum also has a couple of portable steam engines (A.Gaar, Richmond, IN), a South Bend lathe, a Farmall B and thanks to my friend and fellow SmokStaker Glenn Karch the Museum now also has an Evansville, IN built Hercules gas engine. You can see a picture of the Steam Clock at

Those of you who come to/thru Indianapolis enroute to Portland, IN for the Swap or Show might want to make a visit to the Indiana State Museum. When in Portland you are within about 100 miles of the Museum.

Usual disclaimer, no connection.
