Default Charlie Bryant

For those of you who know Charlie, he is going through a difficult time right now. Infection set in on his pacemaker wiring and he is also scheduled for heart valve replacement. Some of those "enginemen prayers" and cards might be quite appropriate at this time. Charlie's address is:

Charles R. Bryant
501 Main St.
Jay, ME 04239

He is front and center (red hat) at Portland '04.

Charlie's infection is under control, but the antibiotic IV has been difficult. His surgery will be Monday or Wednesday (next week) when they will remove the pacemaker leads and work on the valves.

After all these years of ignition systems and valve timing, we don't think about ourselves as much as we should. Charlie is at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

I never met Charlie personally, but when I was very new to this hobby I corresponded with him almost daily via email. He was always there to help me with advise, parts, and support. Thanks Charlie. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Charlie had his surgery late Monday and they removed his pacemaker and the leads that were causing the infection. He also had two different heart valves replaced.

I now have word that he is off the ventilator as of Tuesday morning and breathing OK on his own. He was able to speak with his daughter.

I hope you all don't mind these posts, but Charlie is a good friend and an asset to our engine community. He needs the force of your thoughts and prayers right now.

Harry, THANK YOU! for the update. Don't mind at all about these posts. It is nice to know about fellow engine friends, or family if want to say it that way. So people on here are almost like family to each other. Keep any coming about our fellow collectors. By the way, how is Delco Don?

Delco Don is doing OK. I start some kind of Kemo treatments next week. I don't know how that is going to go, but we will see, what we will see. For some reason I have been having some problems with minor depression. I'm taking a pill for that and it appears to help some. I don't have much incentive to want to be active in much of any thing. I have been tinkering with a couple of generators but my mind doesn't want to concentrate on things. That makes it hard to read wiring diagrams and translate to the hardware.

I guess I'm in a lot better shape than lots of other folks. Charlie Bryant is a good friend of mine, and I wish him the best. He was, and may still be a member of the IL MO Tractor & Gas Engine Club headquartered in St. Peters Missouri. I'm also a member there.

I heard he is TOP, next Monday he goes home. His overhauled engine runs like new. He had told, all your prayers had done good to him.

Latest news: Charlie said he is looking forward to seeing everyone at Portland this year

Had a call from Charlie few minutes ago. A friend went to NH for him. He said they had real good trip to Jay. Stopped at the rest area--probably in Kennebunk --had lunch He's been upstairs --said no problem at all so that was good. He was resting on the couch when he called. Probably be back on line in few days.

Yep, same here - heard from her too.

Charlie is back home as of this afternoon. A friend went to his
granddaughter's in Hudson, NH to chauffeur him! He called about 4:30PM to
say they had a good trip. Said they stopped at a rest area in Kennebunk
for lunch . He has app't next week with Cardiologist in Lewiston and the
following week in Boston so they are keeping close tabs on him. He says
he is feeling good--his wife just called to say he is weak--that is to be
expected as he had quite the surgery! No fun! Many answers to prayers!

I've had email exchanges with Charlie this evening. He's registered here on the Stak, but I guess I need to get him on the phone and walk him through the system. On the other hand, he may be doing only email on his notebook computer. For those of you that don't know, Charlie moved back to Maine last Fall and had remodeled an engine shop for himself out by the barn. Too cold up there for me!

Here's his note:

A week home and I just got to the Barns and my "Hen House" pad yesterday. My friend came over with his JD with bucket. I have to leave in the morning for NH to my Grand Daughters. She will take me into Boston Tuesday for my final check with the surgeons. I had a heck of a reaction from the fluid pill and broke out all over and itched like hell. Finally they changed it to another one and that is OK.

I want to send a message thanking all the guys on SmokeStak for all their cards and messages and prayers. Seems as if I am just beginning to see the light on all the accumulated mail. Dr. says I am going to live to be 102 now. (hope not that long but do want a few more years of good health).

Never did have a heart attack as such, just a weakening of the heart muscle from trying to pump the blood through the restriction. I feel 100% better now.
