Default Model Engine Ignition-Advice needed

Question??When the contact points and the cam lobe contacts(to set up the firing-Should there be sparking-(lots of sparks)that sometimes jumps across to the timing lever-Is that normal??-This engine fires(pops) a couple of times-then stops.
-Buzz coil/battery-seems to be hooked up right.
-Timing OK-about 6 degrees BTDC
-Is getting fuel
-Compression seems ok
Any help would be appreciated
Garry

Hi Garry, Check to make sure the buzz coil is hooked up correctly. See the pic of the drawing in this thread. http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18525
You should be able to see a small spark at the points but nothing that should jump.
Your timing is correct if you are using gasoline. If you are using coleman fuel change timing to about 5 deg after TDC. I have an 3/4" bore Upshur that runs very well at this setting when run on coleman. What kind of engine are you trying get started?

Hope this helps,
Frank
