Posted from an email:
My husband is an artist and likes to paint anything rusty. Currently he is working from a photo he took in W.PA of a stationary engine at an old oil site. It is marked "PENNS" then a keystone with "PPC" in it and after the keystone "VANIA". This is cast on the engine. (PENN{PPC}VANIA) Does anyone have any idea who made it and how long ago? It no longer functioned when he took the picture and may no longer be there. I wanted to get a little background on it for him. Thanks. Sue Varriano |

Sorry I can't help you Sue, but there are a lot of oil field engine guys around here who might have your information.
I'll bet you make your husband a happy man. Keep up the good work! Kevin |

Sue, I have a air commpressor that was made by Pennsylvannia Pump and Commpressor Co. It has a brass tag in the shape of the keystone. It looks like a engine about the size of a 5hp Bessemmer. It is marked Pennsvannia with Ppc in large letters.I would guess it was made in the twentys or thirtys Iwish I could be more help, but I dont know much about it.The city that it was built in is on the tag. I can get this info. for you. Robert B.

Just a note to thank you for your help. I wish the picture were digital so I could send it in. When the painting is further along I'll take a digital picture and add it here.

Pennsylvania Pump and Compressor is in Easton, PA. This is where I 78 crosses
the Delaware River to New Jersey. It is across the river from Phillipsburg, NJ, the home of Ingersoll Rand. PPC was started by some ex-IR folks. The PPC building is still standing and you can drive right past it. I'm familiar with it because a power plant I worked in had a 6x8 PPC. I think Gardner Denver now owns the trade mark, but those things change quickly nowadays.
