Hook up a 12 V battery to the starter motor. Neg to the case and pos. to the battery or armiture post on the motor. look at rotation of the motor. It will turn the same way in start and gen. function.

Thanks for all the nice responses and ideas. I hope to start my project real soon so I can display something new this show season. My Novo just thought that it had reached retirement age but its time to work again

My shooting and engine buddy built a sluice box in the backyard powered by a IHC M and a creamery pump . The grandkids all got bags of ore seeded with semipresious stones from a local vendor with a "dig your own gems" biz out in Sonora . They went nuts for it ! I'd just bet nobody else did that before Xmas dinner that year .
