Default Scale model perkins engine-Exhaust timing

What is more important.Cam is same for ignition and for exhaust.
-If I set the cam to open the exhaust valve at 20 d defore BDC-it closes before TDC-About 20d before TDC.
-What is more important-opening or closing settings???
-I can adjust ignition but not exhaust-If I set exhaust at BDC-then it closes at TDC
Thank you

Is this the verticle sideshaft air-cooled model? If so, I might be able to help.
