Thumbs up Corn Grinder is mine! (sorta off topic)

I'm gonna jump in the truck here soon and go get my new corn grinder that a friend grabbed at a swap meet for me last fall. He says its a McCormick Deering unit and in fine shape. I'm buying it to have something to belt up to my 3 hp Nelson model C.

Is there a better place to ask questions such as value and age than this forum?

Is three hp to large for this unit? Would I be better off to belt it to my1 3/4 hp Nelson?

Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post this afternoon. It's still too cold here to pull the engine out for a trial run 'eh? Although.............

Bruce

Ok.......got it home and man does it run nice belted to my 3 HP Nelson.

My thinks I'm nuts and she's probably right but I ran a few ounces of fuel thru the engine and watched the grinder run. The grinder clutch works smoothly and it's an option I wasn't expecting. Here's some pics if you'll look and see if maybe you guys can tell me who made it and when??????

Very Cool.

Bruce, your grinder is an IHC type B 6 inch feed grinder. They made them from 1913 to the end of 1949, so it's difficult to say how old the grinder is. When someone ask you about it, 1928 would be a good date at a show.

Thumbs up Re: Corn Grinder is mine! (sorta off topic)

John, THANK YOU

The grease cup on it said McCormick but I didn't want to ID the grinder with just that information. The catalog page you sent is fantastic. Is there a way that you would share the rest of that catalog?

I was especially pleased to see the wood at the base. It appears that my unit is original......right to the nuts !!!

This thing will be grinding corn at the fair this fall. By the way, my 3 HP Nelson started really well in 25 degree weather that day I took the pictures.

Thank you again,

Bruce

Although these are cattle feed grinders, they make excellent show exhibits using bagged feed corn. Their primary purpose is to crack corn and grind cobs. At shows we use ours with a 2.5 hp Mogul to grind bagged corn several times. By the third grind you have useable corn meal. I wouldn't try to sell it, but you can give it away. Feed corn is clean enough for human consumption and is not treated like seed corn. These IHC grinders were usually painted red, white and blue. The hopper is International Red, the cast grinder section is International Blue, and the legs are International White which is actually a cream color. These colors are readily available in farm supply stores. Different factory photos will show a variety of decals.
