Default Looking for 60s vintage Briggs Coil

I am looking for the coil/magnet assembly for a 7HP Horizontal shaft briggs engine on an economy power king tractor. This has the horseshoe shaped magnet that wraps around the rotating generator that is about 6" diameter. I was wondering if anybody out there has a source for a new one of these. The local dealers are not that great at looking up older parts. Any help on this is great. I can upload pictures if need be.

What engine is that? You could just use a battery and automotive type coil with the original points.

I have been running on an automotive coil for about 4 yeats. I would like to go back to the stock setup.

If you can locate the model number of the engine I'll be happy to look up the part number of the coil

Thanks Harry

Thats the "Magnematic" ignition armature. They all used the same coil winding part number. These were common and still available from Briggs a couple years ago, but last I checked they are not listed. Look for an older outdoor equipment shop, may still have one on the shelf.

If this engine uses the Magmatic coil P/N 290880, I have found you can modify a later model B&S point type coil and use on these engines. The coil is the later model 2-legged coil which mounts external to the flywheel. I know this may sound a bit goofy as someone said when I approched them about this mod. but he could not believe how easy the mod. was or how well the engine ran after the modification. This modification can be used on B&S models 9,14,19, 23, 1914XX and 2314XX. If ANYONE is interested in this mod send me you E-Mail or snail mail address and I will provide instructions with pictures at no charge. The guy who thought the mod was a bit goofy at first wrote an artical for the GAS Engine Magizine so look for the future artical.
I use this on all my number series engine that the mod. applies to.

CJ, you can order Briggs parts from Grassland Irrigation on rt7 in Latham, about a mile West of the traffic circle. Biggest dealer in this area.....
