Default Choremaster Year of Manufacture?

I'm trying to figure out what year my Choremaster 1 wheel tractor was made. It has a Clinton Engine, 4.5X6" tire, and the tractor is serial number 59,0XX

Also, on the engine, how do you know what model it is? I hear people talk a lot about the 700's, but the tag for mine reads "model # 3100-107"

Any info or links would be much appreciated.

This site may or may not help with your model.

http://www.simplicityva.com/engines/clinton-list.html

Unfortunately there isn't a list of serial numbers and manufacture dates for Clinton like there is for Briggs.

Thanks for the link, but mine looks like both the model 300 and 700. Both have rounded fuel tanks, visible oil bath air cleaners, and float carbs.

It's kind of hard to see in the pictures of the variations of the Model 300 engines on the website but the carb and muffler were on opposite sides of the block on that model. It was the smallest engine Clinton made and there wasn't space for boty valves on the same side.

The Model 700 engines were larger and have the carb and muffler on the same side of the block.

I'm fairly sure Choremasters used Model 700s Clintons (mine has a Model 764A). They may have used Model 800s on some later models, I'm not sure.

OK Thank you, mine definitely has the muffler & carb on the same side. Are the model numbers actually stamped on the engine or data plate anywhere?

Does this help identify the engine?

Dan,

I believe what you have is a variation of the Clinton Series 3100 GEM engine with the origional air cleaner and gas tank replaced some time in it's past.

I have parts literature from a dealers' manual dated Sept. 1956 that shows the engine which I've scanned and if not too big a file should show below.

If you would like me to photocopy the info (7 pages) send me your mailing address and I'll send it out to you.

Bill
