Default Just heard?

Has anyone heard that some fire marshalls are going to crack down on the tents, canopys, awnings, tarps that we use to cover our engines or ourselves from the sun if they are not fire proof. Had a volunteer fireman tell me that they might fine the club or the exhibitors if they weren't.
Has anyone else heard this? What do you think? Is this just going to be a Indiana thing?

It's gotten past that level of insanity in the Town of Henrietta, NY the home of the Monroe County Fairgrounds.
Any canopy or tent larger than 10 x 10 requires a building permit, inspection and proof of insurance, or they will have it taken down and confiscate the tent as evidence.

i sure have herd of that. friends of ours have a bunch of peddal tractors in side a cargo trailer and the fire marshall inspected their trailer to make sure there was enough room to get in and out quickly, as for me personally, they told me not to run engines underneath my tent unless the exhaust was going under my trailer. what they dont see wont hurt them

my.02 cents--kyle

All of us need to say Enough is Enough. These polititions and beaurocrates are taking away our rights right and Left with a capitol L.

I don't remember voting for most of the things that most effect our freedoms do you?

It seems that we are becomming more like the comunists every day. We have to meet with some kind of committee and ask our comrade citizens if it is ok to build a building on our own property. Then we have to paint it a color that our comrade neighbors approves of.

If we don't insist that we get some Judges on the bench that have some of the real original values that this Nation was built on we will loose what few rights and freedoms we still have.

The Suppreme Court is more interested in making new laws that they say are their interpritations of the constitution than they are in actually preserving it. How can you interpret the meaning words in a document if the words are not there in the first place.

We now have courts that overturn the will of the people by declaration and the ACLU and the socialists on the left dance in the streets every time it happens.

Our Suppreme Court has becone the most Unconstitutional institution in the United States.

I want to get some bumper stickers made up that say;

"THE MOST INDANGERED SPECIES IN CALIFORNIA IS A CITIZED WITH PROPERTY RIGHTS".

Thanks for letting me vent.

Dick

You aren't supposed to vote on everything. We ***DO NOT*** live in a Democracy, we live in a Republic. We elect officials to vote for us. Don't forget that the Founding Fathers were afraid of the common man.

As to the issue about the tent, let them come and try to take mine. I WILL be waiting!!

It won't be long, We will be living in a police state. Hell, we already do!

Simple_serf,

You certainly are correct about ours being a Constitutional Republic. So maybe I should blame the socialists news media for failing to inform us when our elected representatives are trampling on our rights with these obserd laws that supposedly protect us.

I for one am going to be watching the people that I vote for in the future a lot more carefully than I have because what they say on the big things and what they do about the little things are two different things. They say that they are for protecting our freedom and for our family values while they allow these pressure groups to slowly and intensionally chip away at the foundations of our culture.

You say Let them come and try to take yours. Unfortunatly if they want to they probibly will. I don't advocate violence, but I do advocate revolution.

Not a revolution with guns and with swords, but but one with Ideas and with words. Our forefathers provided us with the tools to prevent us having to pick up arms whenever the government steps on our rights.

The tools are the tools of our constitution our rule of law and our rights to petition, to free speach, freedom of the press, and our other precious freedoms as well as the freedom to bear arms. The freedom to bear arms was included as a last resort not as the first resort.

However I do agree with you in principle, we do have to resist those who will do violence to our freedoms.

Fortunatly many of our Policemen and most of the Military in this country have a good cultural outlook regarding our country and our way of life. I don't think that we will have to rely on the last resort any time soon.

I think that people are finally seeing what these people are up to and that they are going to start voting for those who will reverse the trend that is subverting our ideals.

We in this forium seem to be seeing more of this protect everyone from everything mentality being manifest than most others. If we don't want to see every thing we collect go into static display we will have to organize into our own pressure group to get the attention of those that we elect.

The Old Car Collectors and the Hot Rod and Motorcycle People have had to organize in order to protect their turf from the do gooders that can't seem to mind their own business.

My dad is the Fire Marshall here in Pendleton, and when it comes to those sort of things he is VERY serious about it. He has told me so many stories of the dumb things people have done with flammable materials, who can blame them. I sure as hell would'nt run an exhaust stack from one of my engines up towards the roof of a non fire retardent material, how dumb can people get??
And, he has also told me of several times when they need to get in and out of an area fast, and there is so much crap in the way, that it is almost impossible, so he has to crack down on that as well. Most of the time, these rules come into effect because some idiot did'nt use common sence and got them selves or others hurt, so then it cracks down on everyone. You know what they say, one bad egg ruins the whole batch.

I agree with the above sentiments. Anymore there is a rule for everything, anymore i wonder about our politicians. I always heard small town politics can be the dirtiest politics. The politicians in washington are there to bring in a hefty pay check for themselves, and to eat expensive lunches and dinners with lobbyists. The only time a politician will listen to the masses is before election day, and then they make empty promises. The day of the simple man is over, or was there ever a day? Money speaks and if you dont have it no one listens.

Laws such as the canopy size is totally ridiculous! So what if i have a canopy to cover my head at a show! Who cares, its my head so why does the fire marshall come and fine me for something i own and use! Not enough space on a trailer to evacuate it? Why in the world would someone need to get in and get out fast on a show trailer? By the time the fire department got there it would be burnt up anyways!

Another rant is the healthcare and education system in the united states. Seeing as how i am a student i can say a few things.
1. Education is way too expensive for people, here in Wv they have a scholarship called the "Promise", to get it you have to earn a decent highschool gpa and a 21 on the ACT. Now the Promise has been given out for a total of 4 years and now they are thinking about passing a bill to reduce the amount and not cover tuition. Politicians couldn't keep their promise as usual. Since the promise was introduced in state college enrollment soared and more people stayed in wv to attend college. This increase in educated people could lead to higher paying jobs and a better economy for Wv but i guess the politicians are more interested in mining coal for big steel than anything else!
2. Healthcare should be free like it is in some other countries. Economists might go on and on about marginal utility and abuse but regulations could be put in. Yeah it would mean higher cost in taxes but those could be sent to business and make them pay, especially if they have overseas manufacturing plants. I almost cant even buy anything made in america anymore, instead its made by someone in China working 12 hours a day, 50 weeks a year, for 30 cents an hour. How do business men sleep at night? Why doesnt the government have incentives for manufacturing in the United States, or at least Canada. Also considering that China is communist why do we trade with them? Anybody find that as odd? We certainly didnt trade with the USSR!

By the time i get out of college there won't be any jobs, and the dollar will be worthless.
By the time i retire there will be no social security or healthcare, the dollar will be useless and christianity will be outlawed.

The one bad egg that ruins the batch is the one that is the whiniest about the dumbest things and cant mind their own business.

Can one man(wups i just put man i better be politically correct and say man/woman) make a difference?

Fire extinquisher anybody?

Yea,

I've lost a lot of good friends in massive fires when flammable shade canapys caught fire and everyone stood around and watched while the fire swept threw the display area killing and maimming hundreds participants and innocent bystanders.

The truth is I've never heard of any one having one catch fire. The worst thing I've seen was at the Los Angeles Co. Fairgrounds when a whirlwind caught a shade umbrella and carried it up several hundred feet in the air artacting everones attention untill it depositied it in the high power lines.

This caused the umbrella frame to vasporize with a loud explosion like a howitzer. The only thing left was the fabric which didn't combust, but just floated smoldering to the ground. This did blow the power to the whole fairplex but caused no injuries.

Here in California they passed a bicycle helmet law which I'm shure has helped Bell Helmet and many other manufacturers make millions. The removal of asbestos from the cellings of our public schools I'm shure has saved countless lives of small helpless children. You know how many of our friends were lost in that horrible way by getting asbestosis from going to school.

That cost billions of school tax dollars and made some people rich. It also took money away from our childrens education. Californias schools used to rate at the top. They now are near the bottom and our teachers Union that was largely responsible for this situation is crying for more money and better retirments. We allready spend more per student for education than most of the other states but don't see any improvement.

The answer for socialists is always scare people into raising taxes so that they have more power. If they controll your money they controll your life and that's what they want to do.

Dick stired up again.

This thread has discussed many topics that i have gotten rather fired up about before. The asbestos scare, for example. I use that stuff for alot of things. Healthcare and education (Don't get me started.). My main issue is that, as Dick said, people are trying to protect everyone from everything. The unfortunate thing is that you have to these days. If someone is standing under my canopy and it catches fire and they get hurt, well, there goes everything I own because of a lawsuit. Here's a question. If I have an RV in a RV park, Do I still have to take down the canopy??

Dick,
As to what I said, I don't advocate Violence. I am however, sick and tired of having to have EVERYTHING inspected. (I have never had a vehicle pass inspection, and all but once it was for something stupid). I personally do not trust police, as our local cops shove their nose in everybody's business (Last I knew, you could drive an unregisted car on your own property...apparently you can't any longer...LONG story). This incident is part of the reason that I have the attitude that I have. My belief is that until voters begin to look at candidates for more than just their stance on major issues, this sort of pattern that we are seeing will just continue.

Finally, If you have been to a large show, such as coolspring you know how many people have tents and canopies. I doubt that they will all be willing to give them up without a fight of some sort. My local show is usually rained out on at least one day (kinda like Coolspring). I have my shelter for a reason.

This is a rather long, slightly opinionated post. My intent was not to offened anyone, just to try and clarify some of my ideas.

The Simple Serf

Radon gas is my favorite health crisis:a colorless, odorless gas that comes from rocks under your house that can only be detected with a $50.00 detector.Give me a break!I'm also glad they took the lead out of house paint as we were bad to eat the door jambs and window trim when we were kids.Chip

Actually radon is bad for your health just to let you know. Its a radioactive gas fromed from the decomposition of rocks containing radioactive elements in small amounts such as shale, pitchblende, granite among a few other things.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer and leading cause of lung cancer among non smokers. As you breathe it in some residue of the gas will forever stay with you, which could cause problems later on if exposed long enough.

Since it is a heavy gas it will usually linger in a basement or first floor, radon levels are also higher in brick homes.

ahhh, but how many people have houses built on solid granit (most radium per pound for common occuring rocks)---second, ehhh, short half life (relitivly speaking)---it is also good, turns to lead once it decays all the way (U238-, in the end, ends up as lead after decay...) think about the money making possibilitys, selling lead fishing weights...now if my house was built on pitchblend I might worry (the government may want my land)---other interesting fact-pure uranium* is not a health hazard unless powdered it can be handled with out gloves or protective gear (do not inhale pure uranium)

*(238)*

(but what I said is true!)

Zach you are right so is breathing fumes from anything including the air down wind from a volcano.SO?All I can say is living is hazardous to your health. All kids at birth should have tattood on them that living is hazardous to your health!! Then we wouldnt have to put warnings on everything else. Of course that may put some some lawyers and politicians out of work? Also would get rid of some of the stupid!? I Would much rather live free and die at a early age then put up with all the B.S. and worrying about how much it costs. It wont cost that much if ya quit protecting the stupid!BobRR

Just to add to people's mind control. The U.S.A. self appointed group to eliminate and moral responsibility, the ACLU, has filed suit at the county level to make it illegal for any county to own a typewriter or printer that does not have a curve on the bottom of the lower case "t". It looks like the Christian Cross without the curve. Most have the curve now, but they have to keep chopping away without letting a vote decide.

Bill,

Are you talking about the Anti Christian Liberty Union ACLU.

They have subverted our constitution to the point that it no longer protects the church from the government. Now thru there efforts the church comes under constant attack. I don't know of anyone during the first 200 years of our constitution who was compelled or even encouraged to belong to any particular religion.

The socialist build a paper giant like that the federal government is going to force people to join some church or religious oganization. It has never happened in this country. The words "seperation of church and state" were never in the Constitution but were just made up by the Supreme Court so that they could start chipping away at our rights.

There is another truly Supreme Court that has just one Judge and he will Judge the world some day and it won't make any difference how we or any court interpret his laws. He has just one interpretation and it hasn't changed since gave us his laws over 3,000 years ago.

All of these regulations are passed because of fear of something. They use their fear tactics to control the unthinking masses. Every time they pass some idiotic law it takes someone to enforce or administer it. This means another person on the government payroll. Most people that get into civil service are represented by powerful Unions sometimes called Associations. They in turn support the socialists because their leaders are socialists themselves.

Simple_serf I didn't intend to imply that you advocated anything and I think we agree on almost everything. The truth is that socialist only have power if things go bad so they use fear to get power.

They have lost some of their power now so all they can talk about is how bad everything is. Acording to them the invironment is going to hell in a hand basket. We are all drinking poluted water and eating chemical laden fruits and vegetables. The economy is the worst it's ever been since the time that they were in control.

The truth is that we have learned and are learning to take care of these important issues and are for the most part eating, drinking and living better than at any time in the history of man.

Be carefull with your vote. Dick

Exclamation Re: Just heard?

Radon is a radioactive gas created by the radioactive decomposition of Radium deposits in the ground. It is usually found in dense deposits like granite or gneiss, the most prevalent, called 'The Reading Prong' Here in NJ. This rock formation extends thru 4 states! Radon itself only has a half life of a few days. Most remediation efforts depend on venting the gas to the outside - remember - THE SOLUTION TO POLLUTION IS DILUTION

As a fireman myself, I can see the fire inspecters point of view. A 15'x20' plastic tarp can cause severe burns if one is caught beneath it when it is on fire. There have been some horrible tent fires, as recently as a couple of years ago. In the same vein, some common sense must be used when pitching a tarp. 1) You must not exhaust an engine vertically under it. 2) You must have at least 2 means of escaping the enclosed area. 3)I think that all exhibiters should have a fire extinguisher at hand at the shows (I always have 2). You cannot be too safe with gas, propane, and kero about, and I have seen some pretty dumb moves at the shows. Ever see someone filling the gas tank - on a running engine? Happens all the time. 4) You must not leave an engine running un-attended. Like I said - common sense stuff. LEARN NOT TO BURN
