Question Fairbanks-Morse Marine

I have recently had a Fairbanks Morse model C marine engine donated to our local engine club . I am trying to find any info on it. From the looks of it, in Wendels BYB, it appears to have been built in about 1901-2. It has a 4 digit S/N. Specificly, I am looking for: 1) A speed control device, 2) Did it have a mixer or carb, and what type / make, and 3) As this is a 2 cycle engine - the oil to fuel ratio. Any other info would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, in advance, Andrew

How do you identify it as a "model C"? Canadian F-M engines had "C" as the first character of their serial numbers quite often.

Thumbs up Re: Fairbanks-Morse Marine

I am not sure about the Canadian build. The engine has been dis-assembled, and we found that the cylender has a rust ring where the rings stopped. One ring was broken. The igniter is stuck, but appears restorable. The cylender looks like a good hone job should have it cleaned up, but we are concerned that the cylender might have an internal freeze crack thru the cylender wall, at the base of the water jacket. Has anyone encountered this? We have found a carb for the engine, and are waiting for the new rings to arrive.

Sounds like a job for JB Weld. Getting it clean enough will be the trick. Put it in a bucket of vinegar for a few weeks then pressure wash maybe.
