Cool 2 HP IHC Pump engine gas tank repaired.

Thought I would pull the gas tank on my IHC pumper project. Good thing I did, as it had a few holes in the bottom of the 20" x 7" x 5" tank made of 1/8" plate. S'oooo I got the sawzall out, cut off 6", cleaned out all the old "CRUD" soldered up a couple of new pin holes I created and welded it back together. I now have a non leaking 14" x 7" x 5" tank. As soon as it dries inside, I'll give it a couple coats of tank sealer. Just having fun, on a dreary day, with the weekend off, even in NJ.

Hi Paul, about to start on my 2hp inter vertical are the measurements of the fuel tank that size originally. Mine has the large base that would have had a pump mounted on it. Dave in Oz

David: The pumper engine base gas tank is part # G1478 which is a 5 gallon tank. I'm sure mine was a replacement at some point based on the way it was made(all welded seams), and was around 2-1/2 gallons. The length and width fit nicely in the base with plenty of room left for height so it could be made up to hold 5 gallons with no problem. For ocassional use at shows, mine will work just fine.

Hi Paul, i was thinking of making a smaller tank for mine as i doubt anyone would need more than a gallon or two for a rally. Are the pump outfits scarce in the states i havn't seen another one out here.

David: I would say that they are quite uncommon. I know of 3 including mine in my "small" knowledge base. Probably a few more, but no one else is coming to the table . Put in the first coat of tank sealer, but it leaked out . That is, it leaked out of the return line hole I didn't have taped up good enough . Later this morning I'll put in a second coat before mounting the tank back under the base.
