Default Empire Engine

Saw this engine sell for $250 at a consignment auction today. 5 HP Empire manufactured by Alamo Engine Company, Hillsdale, Mich. Engine was missing a few parts, had numerous teeth stripped off cam gears. Looked like a good project engine, but have too many of those myself.

Never noticed it until I looked at the picture of the serial number plate after I posted it, looks like it's been altered with the addition of the Empire name over the origional plate?? Anyone have any information in this regard?

Looks like somone got a deal. Was that $250 Canadian? Looks like they cut the Alamo name off the then added a partial tag with the Empire on it. Never seen an Empire with a tag like that before.

Looks like it's a 1928 based on Denis' Alamo registry:
Alamo Registry

If you go to that list be prepared for a bunch of pop-ups!

My Alamo doesn't have a manufacturer plate on it; just a plate from the local dealer in Atlanta B.F. Avery and Sons with the hp, speed, and serial number on it.

Yes, the $250 for the 5 HP Empire engine was Canadian $$. That works out to about $201 US at today's rate. Barely pays for the Wico EK mag that was on it, so someone got a deal.

You should be able to avoid all the pop-ups by entering the Alamo registry from here: http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/page299.html
