Default How to start a TD-14

A am getting a TD 14 started for a friend of mine. He has not had it running, but it was running a few years ago. I have never worked on one of these, and don't know how to have the levers set to start it. It starts on gas and runs on diesel, but don't know how to make it do this. Don't have a book. Can someone help?

Wow, I hope I can keep this simple. The push pull lever is the decompression. Pull it out to start on gas. The diesel throttle is the one that moves up and down with all the notches. leave this down at the bottom. Verify you have gas at the carb. Pull out the round knob on the dash. (push in to kill the power to the coil). The mixture screw is adjustable at the dash, try 3/4 to 1 full turn ccw. Pull the choke and try to start it. These usually light right up. Ok lets say its running. Raise the rpm as high as you can with the mixture screw, there is no throttle butterfly, so this is really touchy. Ease the diesel throttle up to increase fuel flow to the injectors, watch for black smoke. This step is just to help you bleed the diesel system. You will see the levers interfeer when you do this. If you are carefull, you can push in the decompression a little to get these to pass each other. Bleed all the filters, pump, injectors, lines at this time if needed. Now sit down in the seat, if you haven't run out of gas yet, you will. Left hand on the decompression, right hand on the throttle, engine running as fast it can on gas. Push in the decompression and throttle her up at the same time. If you did it right and there is no air in the system, she should transfer easily keep your hands on both levers. If it doesn't transfer right away, throttle down and pull out the decompression while its still spinning, and it will run on gas. Try it again. Aren't you glad you are sitting down. Ok now its running on diesel, push in the button and shut of the gas, and go play.

That's a big help. It sounds like this one is set up a little different, but the basics should be the same. This one has no adjustment screw on the carb and does not have a switch of the dash.

Thanks
