Default Standard Marine 4HP S.F.

My nephew just called and they have brought a Standard Marine 4HP engine, clutch, shaft and prop out of the river. It was lifted with a dredger clamshell. Damaged the shaft but no other damage that they can see. With the other debris in the clam, it appears they lifted it right out of the boat.

He wants to know if it can be IDed by the S# 3420.

I will see the engine on Tuesday and get photos.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, Do you know Bob Holcolm? He lives in the tacoma/puyallip area. He would be your first best bet. Or send me a email and I will send you his email.

Nice find, Bob got his out of the river also. Monty

I forwarded a link to your post to Bob Holcomb. Did you hear from him? Great find, a very attractive engine with the open crankcase. Keep it wet whatever you do, it may have been salt-water cooled or it may have run in the river all its life. If it was in salt and gets dry it will start to split in time. There was another guy with one of these in WA. Post some photos when you can please!

I did hear from Bob, Thanks.

It seems I can't get the engine. They are are planning to use it for a landscape display. What a shame.

Hello RobT,

This Bob Holcolm is he the one that has a 5 or 6 hp Stationary Detroit 2 cycle. If so I was trying to get in touch with him to talk about this engine. Do you think maybe you could send him my e-mail?
Thank you..

Tell them to forget that idea, in a year or two it will probably be split wide open from rust in the waterjackets and weeping red streaks from the cracks; if someone doesn't steal it first. They'd best sell it to someone who can restore it properly. Too rare and valuable an engine to be a yard ornament. I'll forward your email.
