Default Shop Talk

Looking at the Small Engine board, I just couldn't resist visualizing a large engine board to go with it. Not only that, the main SmokStak board has grown to become all things to all people and rightfully so.

For example, when someone posts OFF TOPIC: Cream Separator, I remove the "off topic" and make it simply "Cream Separator" and why not? We should have a wide topic range in the MAIN forum and besides, I have a few cream separators myself.

The thought behind this shop talk board is to be strictly that - nuts and bolts, what it takes to make an engine run again and how to keep it running well. In the past, there have been folks who wanted a board like this. Hopefully, they haven't all run off elsewhere.

A likely addition to this is to place the Paint Shop here as a sub-forum and add a Machine Shop. Others can follow as the need arises.

Don't forget that you can tie all boards together by clicking New Posts if you are logged in, or Today's Posts if you are not. I'll offer up the same POLL that I did on the small engine board so you can speak up.

Harry,
I think that the Large Engine board is a great idea. I always have lots of questions. It's good to know what others out there are doing too

Thumbs up Re: Shop Talk

I like the BIG engine board too! There are alot of differances between the smaller farm type engines and the big engines used in industrial type settings. It would be nice to see who here on the Stak has big engines. Doug

I like the idea too! I have a big engine and this would be a neat way to share ideas with others. I love the smaller engines, but there are different situations that come with working with a big engine.

I guess we are still letting it mature. The only definite decision I made lately was to move the Weld Shop over to Spark Arcs where it should have been in the first place. I don't know how I missed that one.

The big question that remains is whether to have this separate technical discussion board for large engines. A large engine to me is one that I need a hoist to lift. A small engine can obviously be picked up and put on the work bench. I can't lift my fully dressed Ideal 1HP engine up to the bench, so I guess that makes it a large engine to me.

Anyway, the intent here was to make this board engines only for technical nuts and bolts discussion. Shows, show displays, the engine hunts and friendly banter still belongs on the main stak board. This new board is really what you want to make of it.

I dont think the name "large engine" reflects the content, whcih is machine shop, painting, repairs, etc.

I would guess that puts my Faibanks/Morse 45B in the "Big Engine Catagory"
as it takes "Two Men and a small boy", just to heave it up on the bench.
Is that right, Harry?
